summary: This is one of several apples developed by F.W. Thorrington of Hornchurch, Essex, during the early 1900s.
identification: Medium size, round. The base colour is golden yellow over which is a maroon wash with darker striping and large light coloured lenticels on the sun exposed face. Scattered pale red stripes are sometimes found on the shaded face. The eye is partly open and medium size, set in a shallow and narrow, puckered basin, sometime surrounded by an irregularly knobbed crown. The stem is medium long, medium stout and set in a deep and narrow, russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream-coloured and firm. Sweet with a mild strawberry flavour.

Cox’s Orange Pippin by F. W. Thorrington of Hornchurch, Essex (U.K.) during the early 1900s. Fruit from this cross were introduced at the National Fruit Trials in 1925.
