summary: This is one of several apples developed by F.W. Thorrington of Hornchurch, Essex (U.K.) during the early 1900s.
identification: Small to medium, round to round-conic with lightly ribbed faces. The base colour is orange-yellow over which is a red wash and marked with striping that fades toward the sun-shaded face. The calyx is large and closed, set in a shallow basin. The stem is very short and stout, set in a medium deep, narrow cavity which is sometimes surrounded with russet.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy white, soft. Sweet and slightly tart. Aromatic.
origins: Developed and raised from an open pollinated
Cox’s Orange Pippin by F. W. Thorrington of Hornchurch, Essex (U.K.) during the early 1900s. Fruit from this cross were introduced at the National Fruit Trials in 1925.
