summary: This is one of several sweet-tart, red-fleshed apples bred by Markus Kobelt in Switzerland during the early 2000s. Others in this series include Redlove Calypso , Redlove Circe , Redlove Sirena , Redlove Lollipop , Redlove Odysso and Redlove Kohlhaas .
identification: Medium size, round. Almost completely washed dark red.
characteristics: The flesh is deep red, fine grained and crisp. Juicy with a balanced sweet-tart berry flavour. Resists browning when exposed to air.
uses: Appreciated as a fresh-eating apple for its balanced tartness and sweetness, but also useful for baking, jellies and juice.
origins: Bred by Markus Kobelt, owner of Lubera Nurseries of Buchs, Kanton St. Gallen in the Upper Rhine Valley of Switzerland. ( Royal Gala a x Braeburn )
cultivation: Tolerate Hardiness Zones 5 to 8
cold storage: Keeps for about two months. Tends to gather sugars about a week after harvest.
vulnerabilities: Highly resistant to scab.
harvest: In the middle of the fourth period.
notes: The Redlove series of apples are reported to contain 30% more anthocyanin than most other apples. The series has been released under licence and is trademark protected by Lubera Nurseries.
