identification: Medium size tending to large, round and somewhat flattened. The base colour is greenish yellow, over which is a deep red wash. Glossy and thick. The calyx is small and partly open, set in a shallow, somewhat narrow basin. The stem is short and moderately stout, set in a narrow and shallow cavity. Small, barely noticable lenticels are scattered over the surface.
characteristics: The flesh is white, fine-grained, firm and crisp. Juicy, very sweet, with strawberry and elderberry flavours. Tends to brown heavily on prolonged exposure to air.
origins: Originated as an open pollinated seedling of
McIntosh found growing at the Pioneer Fruit Farm near Marlboro, New York (U.S.A.) in 1976.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading tree. Semi-spur. Requires plenty of sunshine and clear, cool nights to mature properly.
