synonyms: Sunrise. Note that there are two cultivars that go by the name of Sunrise and Sunrise .
identification: Medium size, round. The base colour is green over which is a light red over which is pattern of darker red, broken striping on the sun exposed face. The calyx is medium size and partly open, set in a shallow and wided basin. The stem is medium size and stout,set in a deep and wide cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy white, firm and crisp. Juicy and tart, savory.
origins: This was one of 14 varieties developed by Eynsham, Oxford (U.K.) apple breeder Frederick Wastie in 1942 from a cross of Cox’s Orange Pippin x Lane’s Prince Albert .
cultivation: Weakly vigorous. Spurbearer.
