identification: Medium size, round-conic shape. The base colour is pale yellow over which is an orange red blush that covers one-third to two-thirds of the surface and darker red broken stripes. The calyx is medium size and partly open, set in a slightly deep and wide basin. The stem is short and moderately stout, set in a deep and narrow, lightly russetted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white, soft and tender. Juicy and sweet-tart.

Northern Spy at Welford Park in Berkshire (U.K.) by Charles Ross in 1897
