identification: Large, round and slightly conic shape, often lightly crowned around the calyx basin. The base colour is green over which is an extensive purple blush, often marked with dense patterns of deep red striping. Small patches of russet frequently develop on the cheek area as well as around the stem cavity and the calyx basin. Marked with an abundance of medium lenticels. The stem is medium stout and medium long, set in a somewhat deep cavity. The calyx basin is moderately wide and moderately deep.
characteristics: The flesh is is a very pale greenish colour.

Empire with pollen from
MN 1711 by Serge Mantha on l’Ile d’Orléans, Quebec (Canada). First planted in 2003 and selected for additional testing from among the resulting seedlings in 2009.
cultivation: Vigorous. Somewhat weeping growth habit. Bears fruit on shoots.
