summary: A golden, mild flavoured, early maturing dessert apple from the eastern U.S.A.
identification: Round, conic and often lopsided. The base colour is yellow with slight russetting on the stem cavity extending over the shoulder. A slight pink blush on the sun exposed face.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, crisp. Sweet, slighly sprightly. Very mild aroma. Tends to bruise easily.
origins: Developed in 1972 at Rutgers Fruit Research and Development Center, New Brunswick, New Jersey (U.S.A.) by crossing
Golden Delicious with pollen from
NJ 88 . It was chosen for further study in 1980.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading tree. Produces annual crops.
cold storage: Keeps up to two months in refrigerated storage.
harvest: Ready for harvest in the middle of the fourth period.
notes: Very similar to
Ginger Gold , but later harvest.
