synonyms: Marketed as Diwa and Junami in Europe

A total of 6,727 seedlings resulted from the initial crossing, and, of these, 1,102 were selected for further testing. The final choice—designated FAW 5878—was selected from these. It was named Milwa for its 2002 debut on the European market. The variety was created in order to provide an alternative apple that could be commercially grown in Switzerland and marketed in Europe.
