identification: Very large, oblong. The base colour is yellowish green over which is a pattern of red stripes.
characteristics: The flesh is creamy yellow, fine textured and moderately firm. Very juicy, moderately sweet with just a touch of acidity. Tends to be very tart if not allowed to ripen completely or in cool summers.

origins: One of the first cultivars developed at the Hokkaido Central Agricultural Research Station in Naganuma (Japan). It was created in 1971 by crossing
Tohoku 7 with pollen from
Tsugaru and the seedlings first bore fruit in 1978. In the final 1980 selection, the seedling HAC9–hence the name Hacnine–was chosen from 168 trees for further propagation. It was released in 1986.
