identification: Large, tending to very large fruit, round. The sun-exposed face is bright red, fading to the greenish yellow base colour.The skin is rough and coarse and often covered with a bluish bloom.
characteristics: The flesh is white, firm and fine-grained. Juicy and tart. Flavourful.
origins: A Ben Davis crossed with pollen from Jonathan at the Missouri Agriculture Experiment Station in Mount Grove, Missouri (USA). Introduced, 1920.
cultivation: Vigorous, upright spreading. Bears heavy crops with a tendency to bear best every other year.
