identification: Medium size fruit, round. The base colour is yellow, glossy, medium thick and medium tough skin,
characteristics: The flesh is yellow, coarse-grained, crisp. Juicy to very juicy, sweet-tart, spicy.
origins: Developed in 1972 at the University of Illinois Horticultural Research Farm in Urbana, Illinois (U.S.A.) from a cross of Golden Delicious with pollen from Co-op 17 . Grown at the Purdue University Horticultural Research Farm in West Lafayette, Indiana (U.S.A.) as HER3T16. Selected in 1979 as best of the seedling crop resulting from the cross. This was one of over 40 varieties released in the course of the PRI cooperative programme to develop disease resistant cultivars carried out by the state universities in Purdue, Rutgers and Illinois.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading tree. Spur bearer. Produces heavy crops and needs thinning at fruit set to maintain the standards for the cultivar and also reduce the tendency to bear biennial crops.
cold storage: Keeps for up to five months, but flavours diminish gradually while texture remains constant.
vulnerabilities: Genetically immune to scab, resistant to cedar apple rust, moderately resistant to mildew and fire blight.
harvest: Ready for harvest from late in the fourth period to the middle of the fifth.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
