This specific seedling, coded PRI 2175-7, was created in 1965 at the research station of Rutgers University in 1965 by pollinating Raritan with pollen from PRI 1018 which comes from a complex breeding that includes Melba , Wealthy , Starr , Glengyle Red , Jonathan and Malus floribunda 821 which provided the scab resistant genetics. The seeds were planted at the Hinsley Breeding Orchard of Purdue University's Agricultural Experiment Station in Lafayette, Indiana (U.S.A.) and the seedling was selected for further testing in 1971. Released in 1981.
