Co-op 10
type: Dessert
summary: This McIntosh-style apple is one of about 50 apple cultivars developed under the PRI (Purdue University, Rutgers University and the University of Illinois) programme using Malus floribunda 821 to develop apple varieties that are genetically resistant to scab.
identification: Medium size, tending to large. Conic. The moderately thick, waxy skin is smooth and shows no lenticels. The base colour is yellow, sometimes blushed bright red on the sun-exposed face. No russet. The stem is moderately long and somewhat stout, set in a narrow and deep, russetted cavity. The calyx is upright and somewhat closed, set in a wide and moderately deep basin.

Starking Double Red Delicious and PRI 610-2 which includes
McIntosh ,
Golden Delicious ,
Rome Beauty and Malus floribunda 821 in its genetic make-up. In 1962, the resulting seedling was planted as PRI 1659-10 in the Hinsley Breeding Orchard at the Horticulture Farm of the Purdue University's Agricultural Experiment Station at Lafayette, Indiana (U.S.A.) and was selected for further testing in 1970.
cultivation: Vigorous, spreading tree. Bears fruit on spurs. Tends to bear biennially unless thinned at fruit-set. The fruit tends to drop when ripe.

McShay
