summary: A very juicy, sweet-tart, red-fleshed apple. Suitable for market, farm-gate and U-pick operations.
identification: Medium size, round and marginally conic. The base colour is yellow, almost completely washed red and marked with light coloured lenticels. The stem is medium long, moderately stout, set in a rather shallow and moderately wide cavity. The calyx is small and closed, set in a somewhat deep and wide basin which can be surrounded by a slight crown.
characteristics: The flesh is red under the skin and close to the core, often with white or pink between the two. Crisp with a sweet-tart flavour with distinct notes of berries.
origins: One of several cultivars developed concurrently in 2001 by Bill Howell at his Topcliffe Orchard near Prosser in eastern Washington (U.S.A.). Open-pollinated RF: Airlie Red Flesh Apple with the pollen parent assumed to have been MN 1711 . Howell TC2 was selected from among the seedlings, grafted to root stock and, when first fruited in 2010, it was selected on the basis of its red flesh and quality of fruit.

notes: Similar in size, flavour and texture to RF: Howell TC3 . The Lucy Rose is usually bright red, whereas its twin, the Lucy Glo is often peach-coloured on the surface.
