identification: Bright red crabapple about the size of a tangerine orange, verging on medium size, large for a crabapple.
characteristics: A good eating apple, especially so when allowed to age in storage for close to a month.
uses: Ornamental and culinary.
origins: Developed by Dr. A. F. Yeager from a cross of Dolgo and Stark Delicious at the North Dakota Agriculture Experiment Station in Fargo, North Dakota, (U.S.A.). Released in 1935.
cultivation: Does well in cool climates and areas of short growing seasons.
cold storage: Achieves prime flavour and texture after about a month in storage, but keeps well for another month thereafter.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to fireblight.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
