summary: Eaten out of hand, it is a juicy and crisp apple and it also makes excellent apple pies.
identification: Medium size, sometimes large. Round tending to tall. Base colour is yellow, washed cherry-red over half the surface or more and marked with light-coloured, round and slightly raised lenticels. The stem is medium length and medium stout, set in a funnel-shaped cavity. The calyx is closed and set in a wide and medium deep basin.
characteristics: The flesh is white. Coarse-grained. Crisp. Juicy and sweet-tart with pear flavours. Browns quickly on exposure to air.
origins: A cross of
Golden Delicious and @8701 carried out in 1926 at the University of Minnesota's Horticulture Research Center in Excelsior, Minnesota (U.S.A.). It was selected as Minnesota 1500 in 1940 by Professor W. H. Alderman. Released in 1970.
