identification: Medium size, round conic. Green skin maturing to yellow and marked with scattered, red stripes.
characteristics: The flesh is white, stained pink. Sweet, slightly tart and pleasantly fruity.

RF: Pink Pearl and
King of the Pippins developed in 1967 by the late Fred Jansen, a highly regarded apple breeder and heritage apple collector from Toronto, Ontario (Canada). There is some speculation that the pollen parent might have been Brown Leaved Crab, but that is not supported by Jansen's records. Released as Pink Princess in 1997.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading tree. Spur bearer. Sets heavily and needs to be thinned at fruit set to achieve good size
cold storage: Keeps less than a month.
harvest: Ready for harvest early in the fifth period.
notes: Fred Janson was one of the founders North American Fruit Explorers organization and had a large collection orchard near Toronto in Ontario. Unfortunately, after his death, the orchard was bulldozed and the collection was lost.
