identification: Small tending to medium, round conic. Yellow with bright red flushes.
characteristics: The flesh is distinctly pink, juicy, sweet and flavourful.
uses: Fresh eating, sauce and juice apple
origins: Pink Pearl ( RF: Pink Pearl ) crossed with King of the Pippins by Fred Jansen. Ontario (Canada) 1900s. This is NOT the cultivar developed in Australia.
cultivation: Small, spreading tree, a good cropper. Partial tip bearer.
cold storage: Keeps one month.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to rust.
harvest: Over the span of several weeks starting early in the fourth period.
notes: The Cripps Pink apple developed in Australia is marketed under the name Pink Lady and is widely available in supermarkets, to the point where it has overshadowed the variety profiled here.
