summary: A good choice for a Gala-style dessert apple that will tolerate temperatures down into the minus 50 degrees Centigrade range during dormancy.
identification: Medium to large, round-conic. Base colour is yellow blushed medium red over which are darker red stripes. Medium larger russet lenticels are scattered profusely over the faces. The stem is short and medium stout, set in a deep and narrow cavity. The calyx is medium size, closed and set in moderately deep basin.
characteristics: Flesh is greenish, very crisp. Juicy with nutty, pear-drop flavour, but needs to ripen fully on the tree to develop.
uses: An excellent apple for fresh eating, juicing and baking.
origins: Developed by Dr. C.R. Ure at Agriculture Canada's Morden Research Station in Morden, Manitoba (Canada) for the Prairie Fruit Breeding Cooperative by crossing Minnesota 90 with Rescue . Introduced in 1990 at the Beaverlodge Research Station near Grande Prairie, Alberta.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous.
cold storage: Keeps up to three months in cold storage, but the flavours fade quickly toward the end of this period.
vulnerabilities: Somewhat susceptible to fire blight.
harvest: Ready for harvest in the first half of the fourth period.
notes: Remarkably similar to Norda and often confused with this variety.
