identification: Medium size, round. The base colour is green maturing to yellow, over which is streaked red. Thin skin.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, firm and crisp. Moderately juicy, flavourful.
uses: Dessert, baking, dried apple rings. The consistency of the flesh seems to break down slightly when baked.
origins: Developed prior to 1960 at the Morden Research Station in Morden, Manitoba (Canada) by Dr. C. R. Ure for the Prairie Fruit Breeding Cooperative. Introduced by Agriculture Canada's Beaverlodge Research Station near Grande Prairie, Alberta in 1976. The parentage is somewhat confusing with Rosilda x Rescue, Rosilda x Mantet and Haralson x Rescue being tendered as the breeding. However, Rosilda x Trail is now the accepted breeding.
cultivation: Semi-dwarf, rounded upright spreading. Starts to flower young and then bears moderate crops annually. Moderately hardy.
cold storage: Will keep up to four months.
harvest: Ready to be picked late in the fourth period.
notes: Remarkably similar to Norkent and often confused with this variety.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
