summary: A seedling of Honeycrisp, this fresh-eating apple has the flavour of brown sugar and pineapple. Intended for supermarket sales, but does better for farm-gate and weekend markets.
identification: Medium size, round tending to round ovate. Thick and yellow skin, sometimes with a reddish/orange blush, and marked with triangular lenticels. The stem is slender and short, set in a narrow, moderately deep cavity. The calyx is is closed and small, set in a narrow and shallow basin.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, crisp and firm. Complex flavours of brown sugar and a pineapple tartness.
origins: One of several seedlings raised and selected from an open-pollinated MN 1711 apple at the Lynd Fruit Farm in Pataskala, Ohio (U.S.A.) starting in 2001 in cooperation with the Midwest Apple Improvement Association of Newcomerstown, Ohio.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, open growth. Produces fruit annually though it does have a tendency to become biennial when overcropped.
cold storage: Keeps up to four months in cold storage.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to powdery mildew. Resistant to scab and fire blight.
harvest: Ready for harvest starting in the middle of the fifth period and holds well on the tree.
