summary: A tasty little apple for fresh eating, but best used for making excellent jelly. Also used as an ornamental crab, though the fruit drop can become a major clean-up effort. Kerr has a long bloom period and provides excellent pollen for surrounding apple trees.
identification: Small and conic, Skin colour is green washed almost completely with deep red, lighter on the shaded side. Sparsely marked with white lenticels.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish with red stains. Firm and crisp, Very juicy, sweet-sharp and needs to mature in storage for the best flavours to emerge.
origins: Developed by W.L. Kerr at the Federal Agriculture Research Station in Morden, Manitoba (Canada) by crossing
Dolgo and
Minnesota 90 . Selected and tested as Morden 352, introduced in 1952.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading tree. Tends to bear best every other year. Grows best in moist, well drained soils.
