identification: Medium size tending to large. Round-conic and slightly angular. The base colour is yellowish green over which is a brownish flush, mostly on the sun-exposed faces and striped at the stem cavity. The calyx is moderately small and closed, set in a deep and narrow basin. The stem is stout and short, sometimes rising to the shoulders of the cavity. Some russetting around the cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream-coloured, firm, fine-grained, crisp. Somewhat dry, but sweet and sprightly.
origins: Originated along the Sturma River in the Kyustendil region of Bulgaria, likely prior to 1800. There appears to be no record of its parentage.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous. Does best in hot climates, but tolerates cold winters.
cold storage: Keeps up to four months in storage.
