identification: Small, round, flat ranging to conical. Base colour is pale yellow with scarlet blush covering one-half to three-quarters of the surface and barely discernible stripes. Marked with patches of russet. Shiny and develops a greasy feel.
characteristics: Flesh is white, firm, fine-grained and juicy. Strong fruity flavour.
origins: Raised in the early 1870s by nurseryman John Standish of Ascot, Berkshire (U.K.). Introduced in 1921 by Isaac House & Sons of Bristol and it received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Merit in 1922. Was grown commercially in the U.K. as a late, red dessert apple, but has become more of hobbyist's cultivar which is still available through nurseries in the U.K.
