summary: Moderately sweet and scab-resistant, fresh-eating apple.
identification: Medium size, round-oblong shape, sometimes tending to conic, lightly ribbed and moderately crowned at the calyx basin. The base colour is yellow/pink over which is a deep red wash. Russet usually evident at the stem cavity and possibly in patches on the cheeks. The stem is very long and slender set in a moderately deep and narrow cavity. The calyx basin is medium deep and wide. The base colour is yellow over which is a reddish-purple blush, marked with wide background striping and scattered, medium large lenticels. Light bloom and weakly greasy.
characteristics: The flesh is cream colour. Firm, crunchy and moderately fine-grained. Juicy and sweet. Firm and dense, somewhat sweet fruit.
origins: Developed at the Institut National de la Recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation et l'environnement in Angers, France in 1995 by crossing
Pinova with an experimental variety known as X6398. Selected for further testing in 1998. Introduced in 2000.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading, often weeping, tree. Spreading growth habit. Bears fruit on spurs and shoots. Susceptible to biennial bearing, but this can be brought under control with annual thinning. Open pollinated. Thrives in mild climate.
cold storage: Keeps up to eight months in commercial storage at three degrees Centigrade.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to scab, somewhat susceptible to powdery mildew.
harvest: Ready for harvest early in the middle period, about one month after Golden Delicious. Holds well on the branches until fully ripe, no pre-harvest drop.
notes: Thrives in Mediterranean, semi-tropic climate. Suitable for farm-gate and U-pick operations as well as farm markets.
