identification: Medium size tending to large. Oblong and crowned at the eye. The skin colour is yellow with a bright red flush and fine orange striping on the sun exposed face. The eye is medium size and set in a wide, somewhat deep basin surrounded by a faintly knobbed crown. The stem is somewhat long, set in a deep and narrow, russeted cavity. Develops a waxy feel as the apple approaches ripeness.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, firm. Juicy and very sweet with a pronounced pineapple flavour. Develops
best when grown in a warm climate.

origins: Developed by William E. Silva at Sebastopol, California (U.S.A.) by crossing
Gravenstein with pollen from
Golden Delicious . Introduced in 1945.
cultivation: Vigorous, upright spur bearer. Tends to produce biennially but will produce annually with trimming at fruit set. Lends itself well to espalier and trellis training.
cold storage: Keeps two months in storage.
vulnerabilities: Sensistive to scab. Resistant to rust.
harvest: Ready for harvest starting in the middle of the fourth period.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
