identification: Medium size apple, round conic. Base colour is yellow, over which is a bright red wash covering most of the surface. The red over colour is marked with abundant, small, light coloured lenticels and is striped around the stem cavity and around the calyx basin. Russetting around the stem cavity which is deep and narrow; the stem itself is long and medium stout. Skin surface can become slightly bloomed at maturity. The calyx is small and closed, set in a medium deep and narrow basin.
characteristics: The flesh is cream-coloured, moderately fine-grained. Juicy and sweet with a pleasant tartness. Aromatic. Tends to brown slightly on exposure to air.
origins: Bred at the Staţiunea de Cercetări Pomicole Voinesti in the Dâmboviţa region (Romania) by crossing Jonathan with pollen from Belle de Boskoop in 1953 and selected in 1967.
cultivation: Vigorous. Upright growth habit with spherical crown. Semi-spur.
