origins: Likely originated with the many settlers who left northern Germany during the mid-1800s to settle in the American Midwest. Among the many things they brought with them to their new homes were apple trees that flourished in American soils. Prized among them were eating apples, cider apples and apple vinegar. Included were red-fleshed apple from the European trade routes to and from the mid-eastern states.
