summary: A cooking apple. Makes a flavourful, faintly pink apple sauce.
identification: Medium to large size. Round. The skin is bright green, paling to yellow gold as it ripens, blush red on the sun-exposed side. Dry and smooth. The eye is large and partly open, set in a very shallow, lightly ribbed basin. The stem is medium long and slender, set in a medium deep and funnel shaped cavity.
characteristics: Flesh is cream coloured, coarse-grained, firm and somewhat juicy. Sweet-sharp.
origins: It was first documented in 1902 and received the RHS Award of Merit in 1903. Thought to be a cross between
Blenheim Orange and
Golden Noble . introduced by Barbourne Nurseries, Worcester, 1908 Messrs Rowe, Worcester
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright and compact. spur bearer. Precocious.
