summary: A Honeycrisp type cultivar bred by Doug Shefelbine in the United States. Very similar to the parent (Honeycrisp) but produces fruit about three weeks later than the parent variety.
identification: Medium to large size, slightly conic, tending somewhat to lop-sided shape. Base colour is green over which is a large reddish flush covering half to all of the surface and marked with faint, narrow striping and an abundance of medium, light-coloured lenticels which are slightly sunken below the level of the skin. Russet patches generally show around the calyx basin and stem cavity.
Stem is medium long and stout, set in a medium deep and medium wide cavity
Skin develops a bloom and some wax as it starts to ripen
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish. Browns slowly after exposure to air. Becomes increasingly sweet after about eight weeks in storage.
origins: Grown by Doug Shefelbinen in La Cross County, Wisconsin (U.S.A.) from the seeds of an open-pollinated
MN 1711 apple collected in 1990 and selected in 2002 from among the resulting seedlings. Subsequent tests and trials were conduced by Summerland Varieties Corp of Summerland, British Columbia (Canada) in 2014.
