summary: A juicy and aromatic fresh-eating apple that's ready for picking and enjoying in the middle of the fourth period.
identification: Medium to large apple, round to round conic. The smooth, tough skin is greenish yellow and marked with a dense pattern of red stripes on the sun exposed face. Large tan-coloured lenticels. The stem is moderately long and slender, set in a deep, narrow and lightly russetted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream in colour and crisp. Sweet with mild acidity and hints of strawberry, aniseed and pear. The apple bruises easily.
origins: Originated by Georges Delbard of Pépinieres Delbard in Malicorne in Central France by crossing Jonagrimes with Golden Delicious in an attempt to improve on the Golden Delicious. Introduced in 1974.
cultivation: Moderately vigourous and upright spreading growth, Spur bearer. Bears every other year. The branches are somewhat fragile and need to be supported under a heavy crop load. Grows best in areas that warm early in spring and are well watered through the summer. Fruit will drop prematurely if the tree is subjected drought conditions. Not recommended for home orchards or organic orchards.
