identification: Large size. Conic. The skin is smooth and greenish-yellow blushed pink on the sun-exposed face. The lenticels are large and usually russeted.
characteristics: The flesh is white, medium fine grain, firm and crisp. Juicy, sprightly and sweet with a honey flavour. Becomes greasy at maturity and in storage. Bruises easily.
uses: Popular as a fresh-eating apple. Also makes excellent pies.
origins: A seedling of
Golden Delicious raised by Lloyd Lonborg of Oakville, Washington (U.S.A.) during the 1930s. Introduced in 1965.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading tree. Bears fruit on both spurs and limbs. Crops well annually. Tolerates Hardiness Zones 5 to 9.
cold storage: Keeps up to two months in cold storage.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to scab and mildew.
harvest: In the middle of the fourth period.
notes: Resembles the Golden Delicious but tends to be bigger, more conic and crisper.
