summary: A medium size, glossy, soft-fleshed, Type 2 apple developed in northern Germany. Juicy, mildly sweet and resistant to most diseases.
identification: Medium size, round oblate. The skin is greenish yellow over which is a network of brown russet. The stem is short and set completely in a narrow but shallow cavity. The eye is closed, set in an irregularly shaped basin which is surrounded by a slightly knobbed crown.
characteristics: The flesh is white, tender, crisp, juicy, slightly tart and flavourful when allowed to ripen completely.
uses: An excellent dessert apple, also good for cooking.
origins: According to Robert Hogg in xxxx apple was developed and raised by Herr von Harthwiss, director of the royal gardens at Nikita (Russia) and named in honour of Herr von Burchardt, a noted pomologist from Landsberg-on-the-Warthe in 1863.
