identification: Large, round, sometimes round-flattened. The base colour at full ripeness is golden yellow over which is a orange blush and a pattern of bright stripes. Marked with light-coloured lenticels.
characteristics: Flesh is white. Soft and sweet. Ivan Michurin described the flavour as "piquant, spicy, winy-sweet, with a pleasant acidity and a strong fragrance."
origins: Yellow Bellflower crossed with pollen from
Kitaika . Developed in 1908 by Ivan V. Michurin at Michurinsk (Russia), as part of his breeding programme to raise hardy and flavourful varieties suitable for the harsh Russian climate. It bore first fruit in 1914 and was introduced in 1947.
