Bedford Red

Fiesta (edible) and the
Fiesta (ornamental) apples are marketed by the name Red Pippin, frequently resulting in confusion with Bedford Red.
identification: Large and round with irregular shape. Cream base colour over which are flushed, red stripes covering about three quarters of the surface.
characteristics: Flesh is cream-coloured, striped, firm and somewhat tart.
origins: Developed in Pennsylvania (U.S.A.)
cultivation: Vigorous. Produces annual crops.
cold storage: Keeps well in cold storage.
vulnerabilities: Somewhat susceptible to fire blight.
harvest: Ready for harvest a week or two into the middle period. Fruit drops when ripe.
