summary: One of several Antonovka apples developed by Ivan Michurin in the early 1900s to produce a variety of hardy and flavourful fruit.
identification: Medium size. Round tending to round-oblong. Base colour is greenish yellow, with a dense pattern of reddish-brown striping extending down from the stem basin. Rough russet at the stem cavity. The stem is very short and set in a deep and narrow cavity. The calyx is small, tightly closed and set in a narrow and deep basin.
characteristics: The flesh is cream-coloured, crisp and firm. Juicy and rather tart.
origins: Common Antonovka crossed with pollen from
Orleans Reinette , developed by pioneer Russian breeder Ivan V. Michurin in 1902 with the intention of improving the flavour of the Antonovka strain and provide prolonged storage .
