summary: A British eating apple that incorporates all the best traits of Cox's Orange Pippin and Worcester Pearmain.
identification: Medium to large, ranging from round to conic, sometimes irregularly shaped. Skin smooth, yellow with a crimson flush and pronounced red striping on the sun exposed face. The calyx is tight and small, set in a funnel shaped basin, surrounded by a moderately knobbed crown. The stem is medium long and slender set in a deep and somewhat narrow cavity which is often russeted with rays extending up onto the shoulder.
characteristics: Flesh is yellow, crisp with rich, fruity flavour. Juicy and somewhat tart.
uses: Dessert apple
origins: This apple was developed by W. Seabrook & Sons Ltd. of Boreham, Essex, (U.K.) in 1944 using a flower from a Flame 2716 which was subsequently pollinated with pollen from Cox’s Orange Pippin .
cultivation: Vigorous. Tree fruits heavily every second year. Upright spreading, spur bearing.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to scab. Resistant to scab.
harvest: Ready for harvest in the latter half of the fourth period and then over a five week period.
