Zoete Ermgaard

identification: Medium size, ovate with angular sides. The base colour is greenish maturing to yellow over wichis is bright red wash marked with numerous small white dots and faintly striped where the wash fades to the shaded faces. The eye is small and partly open, set in a deep and narrow basin which is often surrounded by a faintly knobbed crown. The stem is medium length and set in a deep and funnel shaped cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, coarse grained, crisp and firm. Somewht dry, and very sweet and slightly tart with a nutty, almond flavour.
origins: Originated in the Netherlands. Known since 1864.
