summary: Grown by Albert Yeager in the Great Plains of North Dakota to provide a wide variety of plants that would thrive in the rather raw climate of the North America's Great Plains.
identification: Yellow with some russet around the cavity area, often extending onto the face of the apple. Usually harvested while still predominantly green.
characteristics: Mild flavour.
origins: Originated in 1925 as a variant of Duchess of Oldenburg by Albert Yeager who served as chief horticulturist at the North Dakota Agricultural College as well as the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station from 1919 to 1937. It is considered by some to be the same as the Patten's Greening apple, although there are some minor dissimilarities between the two. More than likely, the variety has largely disappeared.
