identification: Large, round oblate. The skin is lemon yellow over which is a bright red blush which is streaked with darker red on the sun exposed side, becoming pale toward the shaded side. The stem is long, slender and and set in a deep and wide cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white, tender. Fruity
uses: Both cooking and eating apple.
origins: Raised by Charles Ross, the gardener at Welford Park, Newbury (UK) from a seed from Golden Harvey which was assumed to have been pollinated by a Lamb Abbey Pearmain (the two varieties had been grafted to the same tree).The se were planted in 1864 and cuttings were grafted to a Blenheim Pippin in 1865.
