identification: Medium size, round cylindrical. The base colour is yellow, blushed orange on the sun-exposed face, heavily striped red. The stem cavity is russetted extending up over the shoulder. The calyx is moderately large and open, set in a shallow and wide basin. The stem is medium long and slender, set in a shallow and wide cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellow, somewhat dry.
uses: Primarily ornamental but also used for pies and sauces, with the flesh becoming more tender in the process. Also used to grow root stock for grafting.
origins: A cross of Nevis Crab with pollen from Wolf River developed by Dr. Neils E. Hansen at the South Dakota Experiment Station in Brookings, South Dakota, (U.S.A.). Introduced, 1938
