identification: Medium size, round ovate, sometimes tending to conic. The skin is glossy with a yellow base colour over which is a dark red, almost black wash on the sun exposed face. It derives its name from the dark violet bloom that develops as it approached ripeness. The eye is medium large and partly to fully open, st in a deep and narrow basin.The stem is medium length, thick and set in a deep cavity.
