identification: Large, round conic and angular on the sides. The skin base colour is yellow some of which shows through on the shaded side; the rest of the apple is washed bright red and striped with a darker red. The eye is large and open, set in a medium deep and narrow basin which is surrounded by a knobbed crown. The stem is short to very short and medium thick, set in a moderately deep and russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, tender, juicy, sweet? sharp and with a rich flavour.
uses: Cooking. Slices keep their shape and become sweet and flavourful.
origins: Herefordshire UK presented at the Royal Horticultural Society in 1888?/18883 where it received a first class certificate. nfc Brought to notice in 1883 by Mr Tyler of Hereford, Engla Received a First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultu Society in 1883.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading tree. Bears fruit on spurs.
