identification: Mdedium size, round conic. The skin is smooth, medium thick and has lenticels. Pale yellow with a red blush covering 20 to 30 percent of the surface and a light bloom. The stem is medium in length and thickness, set in a basin that is medium deep and wide.
characteristics: The flesh is white, firm, medium?grained, crisp and extremely sweet with low acidity. Browns quickly when exposed to air.
origins: Developed by Wayne Sherman at the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station In Gainesville, Florida (USA part of a program to produce tree fruit suited to subtropica climates. Fla 90?3 was created by crossing NJ 38 (the seed parent) with pollen from Anna. Seeds from the resulting cros were planted in 1987 and the seedlings with the desired characterisitics were selected for further propogation in 19
cultivation: This is a LOW CHILL variety which requires minimal winter dormancy (300 chill hours to break winter dormancy). Moderately vigorous, semi spreading tree. Young trees grow vigorously and need to be headed. Bears fruit on second year spurs and tips, but the fruit set needs to be thinned in ord get medium size apples. Ripens 105 to 110 days after full bloom. Resistant to blight and moderately so to mildew.
ploidism: Partly self fertile but needs to be pollinated in order to get apples of the proper size and shape. Group ???? Day ???? Anna/Dorset golden
