identification: Medium size, oblong with angular sides. The base colour is yellow over which is a maroon wash on the sun exposed face. The eye is large and open, set in a deep and funnel shaped basin which is usually pleated. The stem is medium long, medium thick and set in a moderately deep and narrow cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, crisp. Very sweet, honeyed.

origins: NFC Originated in the 1880s as a chance seedling on the farm of Thomas Young near Margate, Tasmania (Australia).
cultivation: Moderately vigorous. Spur bearer. Produces heavy crops but can be prone to biennial bearing.
