Sweeny Nonpareil

identification: Medium size or slighly larger, round and conic. The skin colour is a glossy green covered with veins and patches of thick russet. The sun exposed face is often flushed brown. The stem is medium long, and set in a shallow, russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flish is slightly greenish, firm and crisp. Sweet, flavourful and somewhat tart. Keeps up to four months in cold storage.
uses: A good cooking apple that produces excellent apple sauce.
origins: Traised by Thomas Netherlon Parker of Sweeny in Shropshire (UK) during the early 1800s and presented at the London Horticultural Society in 1820.
cultivation: Vigorous.
