identification: Medium to large size and round tending to conic and lightly ribbed. The skin is smooth, moderately thick and with a light bloom. The base colour is light green maturing to yellowish green which is washed 60 to 90 per cent with a striped dark brownish red marked with abundant medium size, light-coloured lenticels. The calyx is medium size, open and set in a deep and narrow basin. The stem is medium long and medium thick, set in a deep and narrow, russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured, fine-grained, firm and crisp. Very juicy, sweet and sprightly with strawberry flavours.
uses: A good fresh eating apple which also makes excellent pies and sauces.
origins: Originated as an open pollinated seedling of Summerland raised at the Summerland Research Station (now called the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre) in Summerland, British Columbia (Canada). Named and introduced in 1964.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading tree. Bears fruit on spurs/tips. Produces heavy crops that are ready for harvest at the start of the first period (110 to 130 days after petal fall). Prone to fruit drop and needs to be harvested over several pickings. Harvests are heavy, but the tree tends to produce best biennially.
