summary: Considered rare or lost. An apple by the name of Astrachan Striped was listed in Nick Botner's collection, but it is not known if one is a synonym of the other.
origins: Considered to have originated as a Swedish dessert apple. Now believed to have been lost.
notes: "There are two varieties of Astrachans, the solid color Red Astracan and the Striped Astrachan; trees of the solid color Red Astrachan are upright, compact growers, with dark green foliage; the fruit red, more or less conical in shape. The trees of the Striped Astrachan are more or less flat topped, branches open, foliage lighter green; the fruit flat in shape, with distinct pale stripes, and a more desirable apple to eat out of hand." -- Transactions of the Peninsula Horticultural Society, Volumes 1-10, by Peninsula Horticultural Society, published 1888.
