Squire's Pippin

identification: Medium size, round and flattened at the ends, often irregularly angular and ridged at the crown. The skin is green with a dull brown blush on the sun exposed face and marked with small lenticels. The stem is short and slender, set in a narrow, deep and russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, firm and crisp. Sweet and brisk. Matures to a rich balsamic aroma in storage. Keeps up to five months in cold storage.
uses: A cooking apple.
origins: Raised at Wigtoft, near Sleaford. Mrs Squires.
